Cleanest Bread at Kroger (2026)

Dave's Killer Bread, Ezekiel 4:9, Nature's Own, Canyon Bakehouse and Rudi's, scored against The AisleScore Standard with the receipt for every deduction.
Standard v1.3, data as of 2026-10-20

Dave's Killer Bread's Organic Spelt Bread is the only loaf in this lineup with a perfect 100, with zero deductions on the receipt. Three loaves follow at 95, and all three lose the same 5 points for the same reason, a label over 10 ingredients: Ezekiel 4:9's Flourless Sprouted Grain Bread, Nature's Own 100% Whole Grain Bread, and Canyon Bakehouse's Mountain White. Rudi's Sourdough Bread drops to 75 for a seed oil in the ingredient list.

What the receipts actually say

Dave's Killer Bread's Organic Spelt Bread has no seed oil and no undisclosed flavoring. Its seed mix (flax, sunflower seeds and sesame) is one compound ingredient, and the Standard counts a compound ingredient once, so the label stays under the 10-ingredient line. Its cane syrup and molasses come after the first three ingredients, so the sugar-placement rule doesn't fire.

Ezekiel 4:9's Flourless Sprouted Grain Bread has 11 ingredients, one over the line, so it loses 5 points on length alone. Nothing on the label is flagged.

Nature's Own's 100% Whole Grain Bread and Canyon Bakehouse's Mountain White (a gluten-free loaf) both land at 95 for the same reason: 14 ingredients each. No ingredient on either label is a red flag under the Standard.

Rudi's Sourdough Bread lists organic sunflower oil. The Standard counts sunflower oil as a seed oil whether or not it is organic or expeller-pressed, and that one flag costs 25 points, five times what the other loaves lose for length.

How we scored these

Every score above comes from The AisleScore Standard v1.3. Three of the five loaves lose exactly 5 points from the ingredient-count rule: more than 10 ingredients costs 5 points, then 2 more for every additional 5, so 11 to 14 ingredients all land at −5. That rule is a length check. It doesn't look at what the extra ingredients are. Rudi's Sourdough is different because its label contains a flagged ingredient, sunflower oil, which the seed-oil rule deducts at −25.

Scores on this page are auto-scored from Open Food Facts data against The AisleScore Standard v1.3 and have not been hand-verified by AisleScore unless a product says "Hand-verified on [date]". Check the current package.

AisleScore doesn't track which stores carry each product, so check what your Kroger has on the shelf. A −5 for label length and a −25 for a seed oil look close on a badge but mean different things: one is about how long the list is, the other is about what's in it. "Sourdough" on the front of a bag says nothing about which fat went into the dough. To follow new scores and corrections, subscribe to the AisleScore newsletter.
